Welding & Fabrication

A customer is quoted in saying to David Walz:

"You make MacGyver look like a Girl Scout"

this was in regards to David's fabrication skills.

The Weapons compartment lock that failed.

At Safetrends we can weld special locks on military weapons compartments.

This job was a emergency, it needed to be completed within 24 hours. The lock is not a store bought one, it is a military issued lock. David was able to find the lock and weld it on to the weapons locker before the deadline.

This is really typical for special jobs to be assigned to us at Safetrends, we have been able to accomplish almost any emergency given to us by the military.

The CDX-09 lock that needed to be installed.

This special job required David to install a CDX-09 on a aluminum store front glass door.

The problem with this job is the location, the door is used, all the time, by the military personal during the week and the only time it is not used is the weekends.

The other problem was the command was told it could not be done without removing the door and frame, then installing a new one. David was able to convince them it could be done with the existing hardware, which was cost effective saving the military several thousands of dollars.

Failure of a obsolete floor safe.

This safe is obsolete, David had no choice but to repair it by retrofitting a new lock into this safe.

David then removed all of the parts in the safe and started welding the holes that were not to be used.

The top photo is the interior of the safe body before welding, the bottom is the safe body after welding and then polishing.

David used the standard S&G 6730 lock for the safe, it was a close fit, however he was able to mount it into the safe.

David installed the relocker, then welded the secondary plate to the relocker plate. This will guarantee safety if someone punches the spindle.

The finished product, a old safe with a new lock fitted into it. The S&G dial and ring are smaller than the standard ones sold however they can be sourced. The customer has a fully functional safe.

A money chest with major issues.

David was asked to install a electronic lock on this money chest, what he found while inspecting the money chest was that it needed to be repaired in several locations before a lock could be installed. This is what needed to be done:

  • A secondary relocker had to be re-routed to the primary lock since the primary relocker was removed.
  • The safe lock had been drilled previously and not repaired properly.
  • The secondary relocker had a piece cut off of it making it useless.

    David did the following repairs:

    1. A pulley was welded to the inner door to route the secondary relocker to the primary lock.
    2. A wire cable was used to attach the secondary relocker to the lock.
    3. A plate was welded to the secondary relocker making it operational.
    4. The secondary key lock was removed and a drill resistant plate was welded in place.
    5. The 1/2" hole that was drilled under the dial was welded properly using drill resistance material.

  • The complete relocker assembly.

The relocker cable is attached to the lower relocker, if someone were to go and try to punch the lock out of the safe it will activate and the safe will not open. Without this relocker being repaired and activated, someone could punch the lock and open the safe.

    Pool Gate Repairs

This pool gate was damaged and a new lock box needed to  be welded on to the gate. The welds on the hinges were repaired, and the wire mesh was added  to the gate and fence.
