David Walz, Owner & Master Safe Technician

There are several reasons to service a safe, one is to resolve a problem the customer is having with the safe. Even before a customer is experiencing a problem safe should be serviced depending on the environment.
Some of the examples would be; a restaurant with the floor being cleaned daily and water entering in a floor safe causing rust, a barber shop floor where hair clippings enter a floor safe causing a safe lockout, and a fast food restaurant with a stand up safe near the grill, being exposed to cooking grease. A government safe being used in an environment like; sand, dirt, salt water or moisture that would cause problems in unlocking the safe.

This is a HHM Lug Door safe, the customer stated that is getting harder to open. David determined the safe was in need of cleaning.

David started by removing the HHM lock from the lug door, he then removed the lug door from the crane hinge. Each safe requires a different method of cleaning.

Removal of the wheel pack is important to inspect each wheel and how it is wearing. This hand change, wheel pack is in excellent condition for its age.

The only wear was on the drop in lever which David cleaned up.

David reassembled the lug door to the crane hinge using lube on the lug door where it makes contact with the crane hinge. This makes for a smoother rotation of the lug door.

David was able to repair the locking bolt, that was damaged, due to the customer repeated attempts to close the lug door while the locking bolt was fully extended.
The total time involved was three hours, in return the customer has a HHM lug door that will work 100% better than before, the problems were resolved and it will be easier to rotate the lug door and operate the lock.
