In 1955 Herring-Hall-Marvin manufactured the first Class 2 GSA containers, under Federal Specification AA-F-357. The GSA container is an important part of the United States Government. Containers started out being used for securing documents sensitive in nature, then expanded to containers to store; weapons, electronics, precious metals and money, just to name a few. This method guarantees the above items are secured in a specific built container that has force entry requirements.
The opening procedure, for a GSA container/vault is covered under Federal Standard 809a 4.2.1. Federal Standard 809a 4.3.3b is the only one method that should be used to keep the control drawer/vault in GSA standards; the other methods destroy the GSA control drawer/vault. David drills the black labels with a 3/16" drill bit and the red label with a diamond 1 /4" hole saw, reducing down to a 3/16" drill bit. Repair procedure is covered under Federal Standard 809a 5.1.5 Method 1A and Method 1B. There is a difference between repairing a GSA red label and a GSA black label.

All GSA containers must have a GSA label attached to the outside of the container, on their drawer front or door. Without the GSA label the container is not considered GSA approved. |
There are two different programs the government uses, in regards to locks. FF-L-2937 deals with mechanical locks, group 1 or 1R MP. FF-L-2740 deals with combination locks. X-07, X-08, X-09 are approved combination locks.
